Can Jam #6: “Berries”– A Trilogy

This month’s focus of Tigress’ Can Jam which was announced by Joel and Dana of Well Preserved is berries.  I was confused first because they wrote everything that ended in “berries” would qualify (like, strawberries, gooseberries, blueberries) – and there are quite a few more berries, that don’t end in “berries” but ARE berries (like redcurrants, black currants, sea buckthorn). I’m still baking my way through the quick bread section of “The Modern Baker” by Nick Malgieri, which is part of the Modern Baker Challenge invented by Phyl. I do not really bake these breads in order, I just bake whatever tickles my fancy. And last weekend, the blueberry crumb muffins tickled my fancy. Blueberries: cake, yet another cake and preserves

As I posted earlier, there is a PYO near by. This time some blueberries wanted to be harvested. I went there with 2 kids, 3 big bowls, and came back with 2 kids, 3 big bowls and about 5,5 pounds of blueberries. Phew! Now I know why blueberries are soooo expensive – it’s a really tiring and time-consuming job, especially when you hear “Mom, when can we go home?” like every other minute.
