The Modern Baker Challenge: Breads – Cornetti (Olive-Oil Rolls from Bologna)

This is my official bread in the Modern Baker Challenge – Cornetti. What a funny coincidence that I am hosting Bread Baking Day #32 this month, the theme of which is “Italian Breads”. I was a little disappointed with the outcome and thought of making them again, but we are leaving for vacation soon and I don’t know if I have enough time to bake them again before August 1. If so, I’ll update this post with hopefully better results and better pictures.

Announcing Bread Baking Day #32 – Italian Breads

Bread Baking Day (BBD) #32 is hosted right here at Family & Food for the month of July.

It’s summertime, vacation time and Germans LOVE to travel. As everyone may know (or maybe not), the Germans’ favorite holiday destination is Italy. Or is it Spain? Or France? I really have no idea, but I’m pretty sure Italy is among the top 5. So I thought it would be a cool idea to have everybody bake Italian bread. OK, so here you go: this month’s Bread Baking Day theme is: Italian Breads.

Italians have developed a wide range of breads over the centuries – I’ve read there were over 350 bread types. So it should be quite easy for you to find something that tickles your fancy. Just to name a few – there is: Ciabatta, Casatiello, Pugliese, Pizza, Focaccia, Crostata, Grissini, Piadina, Pane, Panini, Pandoro, or Panettone. And to make it even easier for you – you can even choose a bread that is not typically Italian but uses typical Italian ingredients, like certain cheeses (e.g. Mozzarella, Ricotta, Parmigiano Reggiano, Pecorino Romano, Provolone, Asiago, Mascarpone, …) or herbs (e.g. basil, oregano, rosemary, sage, thyme, …). The possibilities are endless!

How to participate in BBD #32?

• Bake an Italian bread from today until August 1.

• Your post can be written in English or German. Or you provide me with a  short description if it’s written in some other language. I do have basic knowledge of Spanish, French, Russian, and Italian (Latin, actually), but I can’t guarantee I’d understand everything.

BBD #30: Twisted Breads – Chocolate Cinnamon Babka

This month’s topic of the Bread Baking Day which was initiated by Zorra from 1x umrühren bitte is “Twisted Breads”, hosted by Natashya from Living in the Kitchen with Puppies. When I read the theme I immediately knew I was going to submit Chocolate Cinnamon Babka. I’ve had 2 chocolate babka recipes on my to-do list for a long time, and now was the time to finally make it!

BBD #22: Sweat Breads – Raisin Bread

Bread Baking Day (BBD) is a monthly event featuring bread. This month’s theme is Sweat Breads and is hosted by Stefanie from Hefe und mehr.

I’ve been owning a bread machine for almost 5 years now, and with the machine there came a booklet with a couple of recipes. I tried quite a few recipes, but there are 3 recipes I make over and over again because they are so yummy. One of them is raisin bread which perfectly fits this month’s BBD.
